How the Anakulam live camera works
Select Watch Anakulam live to request the latest available image.
Use Refresh when you want to check again. The viewer displays still
camera images; it is not a continuous live video stream.
Images may be cached. Always check the timestamp shown on the image
to judge how recent it is. The initial photograph is only a preview
and does not indicate what is happening at the river right now.
When the camera is unavailable
Electricity and network connectivity can be intermittent in the
valley. If the camera cannot provide an image, the viewer shows an
unavailable message instead of presenting the preview as a live
result. Try refreshing later.
A camera image cannot confirm that elephants are absent from the
area or predict when they will arrive. Visibility, the camera angle
and the time shown all affect what you can see.
Why elephants visit Anakulam
Anakulam is a village in Idukki’s Mankulam area, approximately 40 km
from Munnar. Kerala Tourism describes elephants visiting the river
for its mineral-rich water. Their movements remain natural and
unpredictable.
Our local spotting guide suggests late afternoon and evening,
commonly 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM, with September to May a suggested
visiting season. These are planning pointers rather than opening
hours or a guarantee of sightings; confirm access and conditions
locally.
Come and experience the village
If the riverbank inspires you to visit, explore homestays in
Anakulam or ask about a local jeep safari and guided forest walk.
Staying in the area can give you more flexibility to enjoy the
village at your own pace.
Watch elephants only from designated areas. Keep quiet, avoid flash
photography, leave their path clear and never approach or feed them.
Follow the instructions of local guides and forest authorities.
